Work Word Problems
- A pipe can fill an empty swimming pool in 6 hours. Another one can fill
the same swimming pool in 9 hours. How long will it take both to fill the
swimming pool?
Solution
- Working alone, Painter A can paint a house in 10 hours, Painter B can
paint the house in 15 hours. How long will it take the two together to paint
the house?
- Michael can mow a lawn in 2 and a half hours, and Jeremy can mow the same
lawn in 1 hour and 15 minutes. If they work together how long will it take for
them to finish the job?
Solution
- A auto factory has an order for a certain amount of auto parts. Production
line A can produce that amount of part in 5 hours, and production B in 7
hours. If both production lines run together, how long will it take to
complete the task?
- It takes 30 minutes for one car to cover the distance between Town A and
Town B, and it takes 45 minutes for another car to cover the same distance. If
both cars start from Town A and Town B respectively at the same time,
traveling toward each other, How long will it be before they pass each other?
- A mouse can eat a pieces of cheese in 6 days, and another mouse can eat
the same pieces of cheese in 9 days. If they share that pieces of cheese, how
long will it last?
- Allan can complete a task in 4 days. Ben can complete the task in 7 days
and Carol in 12 days. If they do it together, how long will it be before they
can complete it?
Solution
- Pipe A can fill an empty swimming pool in 18 minutes, pipe B can fill the
swimming pool in 24 minutes, and pipe C in 36 minutes. If all the pipes are used to
fill the pool, how long will it take to fill the pool?
- Three people have been assigned a task. If working alone, each can
complete the task in 3 hours, 4 hours and 5 hours respectively, how much time
will it take if working together? Round the answer to the nearest minute.
